E-commerce: explanation of change in law on Unfair Competition

Effective 1 April, Switzerland has amended its law on Unfair Competition (UWG). The amendment contains four new rules based on the information regulations contained in the European e-commerce Directive (2000/31/EG).

Google+ launches corporate pages

Google’s social network can now socialise with brands. As of Monday, companies, brands or artists can set up a Google+ Page. The Muppets are already there, and so are FC Barcelona and H&M.

Foursquare & Gowalla: Can Location Based Social Networks Persist?

Are Your friends constantly on their Smartphones? Do they pull out their iPhone over lunch or at random underground stations? These may be clear indicators of their addiction to the latest mobile hype – they are publishing their location on Foursquare or Gowalla.

Both services offer basically the same functionality: they allow friends to share current location with each other in a social network like manner. This is not done automatically (yet), the user has to explicitly check in at his or her current location. A location (or spot) is not just a set of geo coordinates, it has a title and a description and is usually related to a physical artifact like a store, hotel, etc. Spots can be defined/created by anyone and as soon as a spot is created, anyone can check-in there.

@Railservice: when the (unofficial) customer service twitters

Since September, the Swiss Federal Railway has three new employees. Volunteers. They operate a service for railway customers via the short message service Twitter under the name @RailService. What until now had to be asked at the counter or was subject to telephone costs and charges, is now answered voluntarily by the three young “public transport fans” via Twitter.

Chris Leduc (20) is one of the operators of this service. We asked him a few questions.
